ST GEORGE MOTOR BOAT CLUB - SAVE THE PUBLIC VIEW for all to enjoy, not just club patrons!

The Kogarah Bay Progress Association strongly objects to the proposed expansion of the St George Motor Boat Club, located at 2 Wellington Street, Sans Souci, as outlined in the amended Development Application (DA2023/0487) and its accompanying documentation. The scale of the proposed expansion, particularly the significant increase in the number of berths, together with the construction of a concrete wall around the enlarged above-ground car park, render this development unacceptable.

One of the primary concerns is the loss of the view of the Georges River and of Tom Uglys Bridge, a scenic feature that is highly valued by the local community, including those visit to walk and/or jog in the area. The current plans would block this view, diminishing the appeal of the area for residents and visitors alike.

Given these factors, the Association finds the development application in its current form untenable and recommends that Georges River Council refuses approval for the expansion.

The current view - we must fight to keep this for all to enjoy.

The Club proposes a two-storey car park where the current carpark is (see photo above.) This will block the stunning views from the street. If the proposed two-storey car park is given the green light, the beautiful views will only be visible from the Club itself.

Only an additional 59 vehicle spaces will be provided by building an unsightly, ugly two-storey concrete-walled carpark.

The community, which includes the wider public that makes use of the area, must not be deprived of this amazing amenity. It’s enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. The Club should look at other options to the parking problem, such as an underground carpark.

There are still numerous DA details the KBPA objects to; please find our submission to Georges River Council here.
