Todd Park at Blakehurst is under threat of being turned into a mega indoor sports and aquatic centre by Georges River Council.
Todd Park is a highly utilised park for both organised sport, (it is home of the Kogarah Cougars Rugby League Football Club) and passive recreation, including the walking track, social soccer, basketball, cricket, kids learning to ride bikes on the toddler-friendly bike track.
On the highway corridor adjacent to the park and on the southern edge of Todd Park, high-rise residential flat buildings are going up, making this sanctuary of green open space even more valuable and precious to the community.
On 25 May 2020, despite huge community demand including a 10,700 person petition to rebuild Carss Park Pool on its existing site, Georges River Council resolved (with a vote of 8 councillors to 7) to immediately demolish Kogarah War Memorial Pool at Carss Park and spend a further $200,000 investigating whether a ‘Regional Aquatic Centre’ can be built at nearby Todd Park, Blakehurst.
Carss Park Pool decision slammed as ‘betrayal of the community’.
